On Thursday, January 25th at the kickoff public meeting of the Town of Vernon’s BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE, the new Bicentennial Logo was revealed and the winner of the design contest announced by Mayor ELLEN L. MARMER, MD.

The winning design, submitted by retired businessman and Rockville resident, CLIFF EDWARDS, will be on display at the Vernon Senior Center meeting room and will be utilized throughout the next two years to commemorate Vernon’s 200th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2008. Vernon was incorporated in 1808 and merged with Rockville on July 1, 1965.

At the meeting, Mayor Marmer also officially introduced the newly appointed General Chairman, RUDY ROSSMY, who recently retired as Vernon’s Police Chief, along with other members of the committee. On hand to witness the announcements was State Representative CLAIRE JANOWSKI along with the student winners from Rockville Schools

Chairman Rossmy made a brief presentation of the committee’s plans and then reviewed each of the general committee’s 12 sub-committees with a plea for additional volunteers to help on
any of them.

The committees are:

PARADE COMMITTEE – Rockville
PARADE COMMITTEE – Vernon
PARADE COMMITTEE – Talcottville

For explanations of what will be involved with each, and what qualifications may be needed, if any, please contact RUDY ROSSMY at rudyrossmy@Vernon2008.org

There is now less than 1 year left to do all the preparation, planning and pre-celebration work to ensure a successful and memorable 200th year Anniversary Celebration for Vernon.
